Zac’s biography

Zachary David Alexander Efron was born on October 18th, 1987 in San Luis Obispo, California. His parents are Starla Baskett, a former secretary who worked with his father David, an engineer. He also has a younger brother, Dylan. He describes his childhood as “normal” in a middle-class family. At school, he was the class clown, yet had an overall GPA of 4.3. By the age of 11, his father encouraged him to start acting. He then played in many theater productions at his high school, took singing classes and worked at a theater called The Great American Melodrama and Vaudeville. Zac finally performed in many plays, such as “Gypsy”, “Peter Pan”, “Little Shop of Horrors” and more. His drama teacher saw his talent and was recommended to an agent in Los Angeles. In 2002, he finally started to guest star in some TV shows.
Before his first real role as Cameron Bale in Summerland, Zac appeared in “Firefly”, “ER” and “The Guardian”. He then had guest roles in “CSI: Miami”, “NCIS”, “The Suite Life of Zack and Cody” and “The Replacements”. After, he starred as a supporting role in “Miracle Run” (2003) and as the main character in “The Derby Stallion” (2005). All this acting experience lead him to his breakthrough, with the well-claimed High School Musical, where he played alongside Vanessa, as Troy Bolton. In 2007, Zac played the role of Link Larkin in the film version of Hairspray and put on again Troy’s costumes for High School Musical 2. In 2008, during the first rehearsals of the third installment, he starred in “Me and Orson Welles”, as Richard Samuels, with Claire Danes.
After High School Musical, Zac played the role of young Mike O’Donnell/Mark Gold in the 2009 hit comedy-drama, 17 Again. He was later cast in the remake of “Footloose”, but dropped out to avoid playing in another musical. He finished filming his new movie The Death and Life of Charlie St-Cloud or just “Charlie St-Cloud”, which premiered on July 31st, 2010.
